TERM DEFINITION

Action Menu

A form in the WMS Workstation that provides navigation shortcuts to five application areas: picking, receiving, inventory, queries, and reports. You are also able to exit the workstation application from the Action Menu form, by closing the form.

Actual Quantity This quantity is related to wave picking. The actual quantity represents the prior pick or new pick quantity in a picking order.

Application Directory

The target path where a program executable file resides, consisting of the drive letter and folder. You must supply an application directory when installing an application.

Authentication Type

The method that IntelliTrack WMS uses to validate your PC's user status with your SQL Server login name and password. When installing the WMS workstation application, you must know your SQL Server authentication type.

Bar Code A series of vertical bars of varying widths that contains encoded information. Typically printed to a label. Used for computerized inventory control.

Bar Code Label Printing

In WMS, the ability to print bar code labels to a standard or bar code printer.

Bar Code Labels

Bulk Storage Area Main storage area for inventoried items in the warehouse.

Carrier

An organization that delivers goods to your facility.

Carrier Method

A lookup table in the WMS workstation application. The carrier delivery method for delivering goods (i.e., next day air, ground, etc.).

Carrier's Tracking Number Format

The symbology for a carrier's tracking number. It is used as a means to identify a delivery carrier in Package Track, and link the received package to this carrier.

Category

A lookup table in the WMS workstation application. The types of items stocked in your warehouse facility; listing item categories allows you to sort or catalog items. A category could be related to your finished goods product line, or in-stock inventory type (i.e., printed material, raw materials, finished goods).

Compact Workstation

Computer Device Number

A unique number used to identify your personal computer or laptop computer.

Cross Docking IntelliTrack WMS-RF supports cross docking during the put-away process. Cross docking is only available when putting away an item. Cross docking enables an operator to place a newly received order directly into a staging area, as opposed to putting the item into a storage location.

Cradle

A device that establishes a direct link between your desktop computer and your handheld device.

Cubing

A feature in the WMS workstation application. When activated, the cubic size of the item may be created for the item's units of measurement (i.e., each, box, and case) and stored in the item's record (at the Item Data form). When prompted to perform a move, receipt, or put away, the system is able to determine space availability in a particular location. If a location has insufficient space to accommodate the material, the system directs the user to select another location. The user can also override and store the item in the location.

Custom Data Label

An inventory bar code label option in the WMS workstation application, which allows you to determine bar code label data in an inventory bar code label.

Custom Report

Extended Cost The total cost of an item in inventory (by site or location), based on the extended quantity of the item.
Extended Quantity The total individual item quantity in a location or site. (When using multiple units of measure, the extended quantity represents the item total in "eaches.")

FIFO (First In First Out) Picking

Used in conjunction with product expiration date. IntelliTrack WMS lists the locations of items being shipped in the order of their expiration date, and prompts the user to pick items in expiration date order.

For example, to put away a box of perishable items into location 1A11 with an expiration date or received date of 3/16/2004 and another box of the same perishable items into location 1B11 on 4/20/2004, location 1A11 is listed first when selecting a location to pick from when picking an order with this item.

Forward Pick Location

Generally, a "forward" location in the warehouse to which materials can be moved from bulk storage. Designated "forward pick locations" are important if you are implementing replenishment or location sequencing.

In Package Track, a location represents a temporary storage location where the package goes before it is delivered. Bins, mail boxes, shelves, staging areas, etc. are examples of Package Track locations.

In WMS, a location resides within a "Site" and is added to a site at the Locations form. When you create locations for a site, the warehouse space is divided into specific areas.

Location Sequencing

Used with WMS; allows for efficient order picking and put away. Locations are associated with a sequence number, which directs the user, with an RF portable, to a predefined location when picking and/or putting away order items. (WMS sorts line items into the sequence defined and presents the line item in sequential order.) This reduces the travel time when putting away and picking order(s).

Lookups

Lot

An inventory grouping that is identified by a number, alphanumeric character, etc.

If using auto numbering for your orders, we recommended using a new starting number with at least 5 numerals (10000).

Order Status (for receiving and picking orders)

Used in WMS; the system status of the order (open or closed). An open order has not been fully processed by the system. A closed order has been fully processed by the system.
